Do you believe in zodiac signs? The meaning of birthdates? The moon and the stars? Karma? Sure, many of us casually flip through the Sunday paper and amuse ourselves with our latest horoscope, but do we really take it that much to heart? As our bride of this month will attest, perhaps we very well should.
Danya was born on October 1, 1982; our groom Frank, the same day and month to the letter (two years earlier), but that was just the beginning. From the get go, these two learned that not only do opposites really attract, so too do those who are very much alike. When Danya and Frank first met, the more they found in common, the deeper they fell in love. Both are very family oriented, share old-fashioned tastes and values, had grown up in very traditional homes in the same neighborhood. Having a common birthday, as it turns out, was just the tip of the iceberg and one of a string of coincidences. Even the circumstances behind their chance meeting some six-and-a-half years ago were identical.
Danya and Frankie met at a holiday party that neither was originally planning to attend. Danya really didn’t want to go out that fateful night, but did so to keep her best friend company. Frankie joined his brother and reluctantly attended this very party. Frankie spotted Danya across the room, waited it out, and asked about her at the end of the night. A phone call netted their first date the following weekend. Five years later and while attending Danya’s brother’s wedding in Puerto Rico, Frankie surprised Danya with a proposal. He got down on one knee and proposed as an entire restaurant full of people looked on. From there, the couple forged ahead, both enjoying the steady bustle of planning the wedding of their dreams.
Both Danya and Frankie (in true Libra fashion) have classic tastes, so their wedding was classic to the very last detail. The flowers were breathtaking and purely white. The bridesmaids wore stunning celadon-colored dresses, all in the same fabric but each styled individually. The groomsmen were dressed to the nines in black and white tuxedos. Danya was chauffeured to St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining in a classic 1959 Cadillac convertible. A whopping 14 bridesmaids, 16 groomsmen, and two ring bearers flanked the couple. Danya wore a simple and elegant ivory gown (The Priscilla of Boston Collection) with a sweetheart neckline and simple beading around a drop waistline.
The reception was held at the VIP Country Club in New Rochelle with more than 300 guests in attendance. Immediately following this grand affair, the couple flew off to Croatia, enjoying the honeymoon of a lifetime in paradise.

As for the coincidences, it looks like they’ll continue right through. Having been born and raised in Westchester County, the two bought a house of their own here, and plan to bring up their own children in the town they both grew up in.
When asked what keeps this couple so happy together, Danya sighs happily.
“Frankie’s my backbone,” she says. “Whatever questions I have, whatever the dilemma, he always has a fair and well thought-out answer for me.” Danya adds that Frankie says the very same thing to her merit.
