Hudson at Haymount House

At this fine restaurant in a mansion that was allegedly used to portray Tara in Gone With the Wind, feel like a Southern belle (or beau) at Happy Hour on the back lawn, with river views, half-price wine and cocktails, and a menu of $6 to $15 plates such as Baja fish tacos and grilled merguez. Or cozy up at the bar near a fireplace and have a burger and fries with beer or wine ($19/$23).

Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish

Ever wish Happy Hour could last all day? That’s what’s going on here with the perpetual Red, White, & Blue special at the bar, next to a fireplace: $8 for Pabst Blue Ribbon on draft or house red or white wine, and six bluepoint oysters or raw clams—plus unlimited peanuts in the shell. Go just to check out the building, an 18th century farmhouse with all sorts of charm, bustling with throngs who come to feast on fantastic seafood.

The Iron Shaker

If the fireplace lounge area is available, grab it; otherwise, choose an intimate booth with queen-portrait wallpaper. Sip on $4 beers, $7 mixed drinks, and $8 house cocktails—but try to get there between 5 and 7 pm for complimentary appetizers, such as bruschetta, bocconcini with cherry tomatoes; and roasted red peppers. A mid-priced small-plates menu will tempt larger appetites.

The Tapp

Fantastic craft beers and good eats await at this low-lit brick-and-wood bar, with a $5 menu encompassing all draft beer, wines by the glass, well drinks, and “Wiseman shots” (Jim, Jack…). Start your evening with the hearty mac and cheese made with Weissbier on draft, or a piada sandwich with feta cheese, caramelized onions, mozzarella, tomato, and spinach, served with olives.
