As part of its Day Tripping series, Racked NY, the online guide for NYC shopping-news obsessives, put together a list of Ten Places to Shop in Northern Westchester last month. Besides name-dropping Westchester Magazine, they had us at the story’s opening line—“First things first: Westchester County is not upstate.” (Their bolding!) Focusing on Northern Westchester, they explain, because of its “more suburban vibe (read: lots of trees) than points south,” the suggested stops start in Yorktown Heights and continue in succession down to Tarrytown. (We wouldn’t exactly call Tarrytown “northern,” but we’ll give them a break.)
The piece goes on to briefly detail what to expect at nine actual stores, as well as one of our (and the Clintons’) favorite restaurants, for fueling up mid-excursion. Though they did check off a few inarguable local retail stars, like Churchills, Great Stuff (the Chappaqua one), and perennial Best of Westchester-winner Country Willow, we’ll let you decide which of the other choices are more…interesting. Our only correction: In response to the writer’s assertion that “You’ll need a car, or at least someone who has one, to get around up there,” we advise out-of-towners to get acquainted with Metro-North.
