Lohud pits New York against New Jersey with nearly a dozen mobile eateries from each state. From New York, look out for local trucks like The Souvlaki Truck, Kona Ice, Three Little Pigs BBQ, and Hudson Valley’s Frites of NY. And New Jersey is bringing the bacon, plus the guacamole, waffles, donuts, and cheesesteaks. Admission to the festival also gets you access to carnival reads, live music, and the beer garden.

Excuse the self-promotion, but we’re super excited about our Wingfest — and we think you should be too. For the first time, we’re bringing together nearly 30 local restaurants — Coals, The Wooden Spoon, Rye Roadhouse, and Alvin & Friends, to name a few — to go toe to toe (or, dare we say, wing to wing) for a championship title. After much sampling, attendees can vote for their favorites, and a panel of judges will choose winners in categories like traditional buffalo, barbecue, and most creative. Once you’ve hit your wings limit, there’s still live music, desserts, and, of course, beer.

Different from many of the festivals on this list, Manhattanville’s Food Justice Festival is a forum for discussing the social and ethical implications of our food system. Addressing the question “How Do We Feed the World,” the festival will be anchored by keynote speaker and Blue Hill at Stone Barns chef Dan Barber and will include a writing workshop with author Aria Beth Sloss (she’s also Barber’s wife). Other programs include conversations with farmers and local institutions about the farm-to-table movement, organic farming, and the economics of eating.

It’s all about the talent at the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival. Local chefs from Westchester (Fortina’s Christian Petroni, Mogan Anthony from Village Social, and Sonora’s Rafael Palomino, among others) and Fairfield Counties show off at the Grand Tasting. While acclaimed NYC chefs and Food Network personalities, including Alex Guarnaschelli and Scott Conant chop and chat in the demo tents. Plus, chef and TV personality Adam Richman emcees the annual Burger Battle, bartenders showdown at Empire City Casino, Mario Batali hosts an intimate dinner, and Train performs on the music stage. The price tag can be steep, but proceeds benefit the Mario Batali Foundation, James Beard Foundation, and the Greenwich Parks and Recreation Fund.

Harbor Island International Beer Festival • September 23
Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck
This annual beer fest from the owners of Half Time in Mamaroneck is back and bigger than ever. And impressive list of international and domestic breweries — from Guinness, Strongbow, Spaten and Westmalle to Allagash, Newburgh, Singlecut, Ommegang, and Two Roads — pour more than 400 different beers. To soak up all those suds, this year’s festival features double the food vendors, including the Walter’s, DoughNation, and Melt Mobile trucks that will appear alongside popular NYC vendors like Wafels & Dinges and Red Hook Lobster Pound. There’s also live entertainment, adult-tricycle races, and the largest stein hoist in New York State. On top of all that, this year’s festival will benefit breast-cancer foundation Miles of Hope and the SPCA of Westchester. Did we mention they’re bringing puppies?

Hudson Valley Garlic Festival • September 30 – October 1
Cantine Veterans Memorial Field in Saugerties
Pack some Altoids for a visit to this Hudson Valley allium celebration, the second largest garlic festival in the country. Now in its 26th iteration, expect roughly 40,000 people to attend to snack on garlicky dishes from potatoes and burgers to garlic candies and garlic ice cream. Garlic lovers can also shop for hard-to-find varietals, check out cooking demos by local chefs, and attend lectures on garlic growing and braiding. For the garlic averse, the festival promises a series concerts, children’s activities, and an arts-and-crafts area with more than 80 vendors.
