The 5 Most Frightful Fests to Hit Up This Weekend in Westchester

With less than a week to get before All Hallows’ Eve, here are the best upcoming places to get your creep on.

Spooktober is in full swing here in Westchester, and even if you’ve already hit up the Sleepy Hollow, the Blaze, and every haunted house for twenty miles, there’s still plenty of tricks to treat yourself to! We’re rounding up some of the best places you should be head(less)ing this weekend to celebrate in style!

Join the Walking Dead

Downtown White Plains is set to have a pretty lively crowd (pardon the phrasing) this Sunday, in the city’s official Zombie Walk. Guests can come in full costume (and even get your zombie makeup touched up) before group photos and lurching out into the noonday streets to grunt, grown, and (politely) feast on brains.

Local shops and restaurants like Phatburn, Bead Everything, Hastings Tea & Coffee, the Lazy Boy Saloon, and even the venerable Walter’s Hot Dogs will be offering specials, like a blood orange lemonade, “black bat crêpe,” or a “bleeding” latte! Best of all, the Zombie Walk is fully taggable, meaning the most-liked zombie selfie (“zelfie”?) will receive a special prize!

Looking for something a little less family friendly? Downtown Yonkers is holding a zombie Pub Crawl from 6 p.m. until midnight. Grab $4 beers, $5 shots, and $6 cocktails at local favorites like Café Hudson, Dolphin Restaurant, Francey Brady’s, Guapo Mexican-Cuban Cuisine, La Bella Havana, Kala’an Mul, Yonkers Brewing Co., and Zuppa Restaurant. They’ll have their own costume contests as well, so slap on your best and look your worst, gentle ghouls!

Rock Out in Peekskill

All the way up at the other end of the county, fresh off their tenth anniversary, the Peekskill Brewery is hosting Chopper’s Halloween Rock Show from 8 to 11 p.m. Beer will flow and strangers will compliment you on your stylish costume over the musical stylings of Johnny Giovanni and Westchester’s own Maintenance.

Meanwhile, just a few blocks away, Spins Hudson will be hosting zombie editions of their ropes course and laser tag attractions from 7 until 11 p.m., as well as a Family Halloween Festival the next day, Sunday October 27, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Activities will include pumpkin decorating, Halloween games, trick-or-treating stations, a bouncy castle, a special haunted edition of the ropes course, and a free goodie bag for every kid. Plus, there will be special arcade and gaming discounts for anyone who comes in costume, so even parents can get in on the fun!

Come on and Slam!

Irvington and the mighty Slambovian Circus of Dreams will be hosting the triumphant return of their annual Grand Slambovian Halloween Ball beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Think immersive live musical events, full of audience participation and spooky hits from the band’s twenty-year catalog.

There will also be a local history themed costume contest, and special guest Gary Lucas, to perform “spook guitar” live to 1931’s Spanish Dracula art film. It’s going to be weird, wild, and absolutely wonderful.

Bonus: Get the Buckout on Halloween

We know, actual Halloween is on a Wednesday this year. While most places have adjusted their celebrations accordingly, we know you might want to do something to celebrate day-of. That being the case, it’s time for you to finally get a good look at the horror flick based on a local legend we’ve been raving about for the past year.

Buckout Road will have an exclusive Halloween screening at White Plains’ City Center Cinema Delux at 7:30 p.m. The film stars the likes of Danny Glover and Evan Ross, and revolves around one of Westchester’s most prominent urban legend ghost stories. Since the first screening already sold out, a second screening has been added later in the evening!
