With a stately Georgian mansion perched on 26 idyllic acres overlooking the Hudson, Tarrytown House at the Irvington town line has practically everything those with Golden
Age fantasies could ever hope for. So much so, in fact, that one half-expects to see gamesmen playing cricket and croquet as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan stroll arm in arm along one of the venue’s many verdant paths.
Tarrytown House is actually two houses – or mansions – connected by a network of adjoining buildings. On your wedding night, you’ll reside in the King Mansion, a venue that is at once grand yet intimate, even familiar – as though it were the rich uncle’s mansion you’d played in as a kid. A nice bonus feature is that you and your new spouse can either book a room for just yourselves or take your besties and bridal party along for the ride by reserving the entire 10-room venue.
Rooms in the King Mansion feature period décor, four-poster bed, large bathroom and soaking tub, and some have a patio. The wedding-night amenities package includes an in-room cookies-and-milk midnight snack, morning breakfast on the river-view balcony with Champagne (“Cellar 49 to Go,” from the venue’s upscale on-site restaurant, Cellar 49), use of the indoor/outdoor pools and fitness facilities, free WiFi, valet parking and luggage service, and 3 p.m. checkout. The facility is under new ownership and management as of press time, and we’ve been assured that significant upgrades and enhancements are on the way.
What’s to Love
Of the many special touches offered here, the private balconies of the King Mansion that overlook the Hudson will definitely transport you to a more lofty place in the world.
