With a menu that emphasizes flavor and freshness, a deep selection of tequila and mezcal, and an interior with a cool vibe, Tipsy Taco Bar is Mount Kisco’s new go-to for Mexican food. “Mount Kisco is known for its restaurants, and customers are looking for places that put a premium on freshness and quality,” says owner Milton Torres, a Mount Kisco resident who hails from Ecuador. “I’ve always loved the flavors and versatility of Mexican food.”
Tipsy Taco, which opened at the end of July, is modeled after California-style taquerias, which highlight ingredients from local farms and vendors. (Torres is building relationships with area farms to incorporate as many local and organic ingredients as possible.) That ethos carries over in the décor, featuring reclaimed wood on the walls, and to restaurant’s limited use of plastic. “I always wanted to have a restaurant that was as environmentally friendly as possible,” Torres says.
The striking murals throughout, created by a Westchester artist, echo the look of a traditional taqueria that one might find in Baja or Mexico.
The menu features both traditional favorites, such as burritos and quesadillas, and lighter, healthier options, including an array of vegetarian dishes and bowls featuring organic brown rice. Dishes hit the right portion size, too. The guacamole and warm, crispy chips disappeared quickly, leaving the totally empty bowl as the only testament to the perfect guacamole that had been inside.
Tacos include shrimp served with a delicious red cabbage slaw, Brussels sprouts with chipotle romesco sauce, and chicken tinga in a sauce with a kick from Mexican spices. (All three were flavored perfectly.) The beef burrito was chock-full of tender beef, rice, and beans. And a light, airy tres leches cake ended the meal on a sweet note.
As befitting a restaurant with the word tipsy in its name, Tipsy Taco carries more than 60 tequilas and 30 mezcals, plus cocktails like a delicious Mezcal Negroni. For sipping straight, customers can splurge on a $300 bottle of Casa Azul tequila, or enjoy the smoky flavors of a Bruxo mezcal.
