The Larchmont boutique offers internationally inspired accessories and home decor that help to instantly brighten any interior.
Unique, globally inspired home decor, apparel, and accessories abound at Larchmont’s Taaru Majeure (124 Larchmont Ave; taarumajeure.com). Owner Mama Faye had founded her own skincare brand, called Taaru Majeure, before opening the boutique of the same name on the Sound Shore. Some of the inventory at the Larchmont gem is inspired by Faye’s native Senegal, including colorful caftans and her beauty brand, which features products with luxe formulas for various skin types and tones.
In addition, wallets from Tunisia, cosmetics brands from the U.S. and France, artwork, and costume jewelry are on offer. While Faye, a Hartsdale resident, opened the boutique in 2019, she had to reinvent and restrategize last year due to the pandemic. “I pivoted a bit to save my business,” she says. She began to incorporate home-decor accessories at the boutique, as the public’s focus had shifted from interest in the beauty industry to the home industry, because of the increased time around the house during the pandemic.
Exclusive, one-of-a-kind handwoven baskets and cutlery from Senegal have been introduced to the boutique, complementing other internationally sourced home accessories, like French candles. Faye’s more than two decades of experience working with luxury beauty brands (Chanel, Tom Ford Cosmetics, Sisley Paris) and her connections with international artisans and American designers have allowed her to create this distinctive space in the local retail-and-beauty scene.
