Suffern Scorsese! Hollywood Hits Rockland for Filming

The West end of Lafayette Ave. between Chestnut St. and Orange Ave. was sent back in time recently. For four hours on September 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., businesses in this portion of town received a makeover to stand in for 1970s New York City. Many closed for the shoot, but a few stayed open to house curious onlookers.

Robert De Niro stars as the titular Irishman in Scorsese’s film, an adaptation of Charles Brandt’s 2004 true crime book “I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran and the Inside Story of the Mafia, the Teamsters, and the Final Ride by Jimmy Hoffa.”  The cast also sports fellow Goodfellas alum Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, Harvey Keitel, and Ray Romano.

The film is to be released by Netflix some time in 2019.
