Summer may technically be almost over, but with record-breaking temps soaring into the 90s this week, we’re not saying goodbye to the season just yet. And while you’ve been drinking pink wine for the past three months (you have, right?) you’ve got to try frosé—i.e. a frozen wine slushie—before a fall cold snap sets in.
At The Wooden Spoon in New Rochelle, a pair of slushie machines turns out two types of Frozies (their version of frosé) each day. “We started doing the Frozies in May,” says owner Nick Triscari. “I bought the frozen drink machine because I love slushies and figured we could have some fun.”
Since then, Triscari has been experimenting with flavor combos like pink lemonade and rosé (pictured left), lemonade and Champagne, sweet tea and Pinot Grigio, and even Kool Aid and rosé. It seems kind of wrong until you try it and realize the combos make perfect sense—pink lemonade brings out the rosé’s bright acidity. Triscari is also experimenting with brozies—beer slushies—with pairings like Corona and pink lemonade and IPA with grape ade.
“The frozies will be a staple on our menu from now on,” promises Triscari. “When we get our full liquor license, which we have applied for, we’ll pair them with spirits to make mixed cocktails.” We can’t wait.
