With the start of the school year looming, Bloomingdale’s and Kind Campaign have partnered to put an end to bullying. This week, Bloomingdale’s will host events to promote confidence, kindness, and inclusion. Kind Campaign was founded by Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson to help end girl-against-girl bullying. Having both been affected by female bullying, Paul and Thompson wanted to give women a platform through which they could speak out about the experience of bullying. Kind Campaign programing and assemblies have impacted millions of individuals at the international level. Find their message locally — at a Fashionable Fundraiser hosted by White Plains’ Bloomingdale’s.

From August 22-26, national Bloomingdale’s stores will sell a collection of T-shirts, with 10 percent of sales benefiting Kind Campaign. The shirts include women’s styles designed by Girl Dangerous, a brand that celebrates female empowerment, and men’s and kids’ T-shirts by Kid Dangerous. Priced from $28 to $39, the apparel has sweet sayings printed on it, such as “Find Your Kind,” “Kind Campaign,” “Cool to Be Kind” and “Kindness is Magic.” You will be able to decorate a pledge wall at Bloomingdale’s with kind expressions, positive affirmations, or anti-bullying slogans. The murals will be donated to local schools. Bloomingdale’s customers will be able to make a difference monetarily by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar with the difference donated to Kind Campaign. Thompson says, “Bloomingdale’s is an organization we greatly admire.” She continues, “We are thrilled by their eagerness to cultivate a culture of kindness and create positive habits for every child and parent this back-to-school season.”
The White Plains store, specifically, will also be hosting two local children’s activities. Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 22, from 12-4 p.m., the retailer will host a friendship bracelet workshop, in collaboration with Westport’s Shame on Jane. Kids can choose a bracelet with the help of owner and designer Kimberly Pauley and then attach to it a note of kindness. On Saturday, August 25, there will be a sewing workshop from 2-4 p.m., hosted with Rye’s Sew Happy. Bloomingdales will bring in sewing machines to teach kids how to sew a Kind basket during complimentary 20-minute sessions.
The partnership with Kind Campaign is part of Bloomingdale’s biannual Fashionable Fundraiser. Frank Berman, the retailer’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer says, “We get behind causes that are important to our communities and our customers.” He continues, “Fashionable Fundraiser was created to drive awareness, conversation and support surrounding universal topics, and anti-bullying is a powerful issue affecting many of our friends and neighbors.”
