Steven Spielberg Film Shooting More Scenes in Westchester

Following reports of scenes shot in White Plains in June, filming for Steven Spielberg’s 1970s period drama surrounding the publication of the Pentagon Papers has moved into Mamaroneck.

The scene was shot July 15 at local landmark The Mamaroneck Motel, widely known for it’s vintage design aesthetic.

The film, currently under the working title The Papers, stars Meryl Streep as Washington Post publisher Kay Graham and Tom Hanks as editor Ben Bradlee, pivotal figures in both the publication of the reports detailing the extent of U.S. military involvement in Vietnam, and the later Watergate investigation.

Local resident “Hollywood” Nick Pagani, a collector and part-time wrangler of period automobiles for movie shoots, confirmed he had also been brought in to supply cars for the film.

The shoot comes just two days after Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced the TV and film industry had brought Westchester more than $30 million in revenue in 2016, up a staggering 67 percent from 2014. Revenue from location fees and other permits also increased by a whopping 130 percent to more than $1 million.

“Westchester’s film and TV industry is booming,” he said. “These numbers show the popularity of Westchester as a backdrop for movies, television shows, and commercials, as well as the importance of the film and TV industry to our local economy.”

The Papers is slated for a December 22 release, also featuring Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, and Zach Woods.
