The Jacob Burns Film Center played host this past Sunday to legendary director Steven Spielberg, privately screening his latest film The Post, ahead of its theatrical release, for former president and Chappaqua resident Bill Clinton, as well as County Executive-Elect George Latimer. JBFC Board President Janet Maslin, a friend of the director, conducted a brief Q&A following the movie.

The film stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks as Washington Post publisher and editor Kay Graham and Ben Bradlee, respectively, and details the events surrounding the 1971 release of the Pentagon Papers, shining a light on American military involvement in Vietnam. The Post filmed in White Plains this past June, with the stars filming at the old AT&T building off Route 22, and again in July when the retro-styled Mamaroneck Motel filled in for period scenery, and local resident “Hollywood” Nick Pagani supplied the production with vintage vehicles.

Spielberg gave The Post it’s public debut two days later at Lincoln Center; it’s official release date is December 22.
