To stay safe at public fireworks displays, Charlie DeSalvo, executive producer at Fireworks by Grucci—a world-renowned company whose elaborate displays have been featured at numerous US presidential inaugurations, Olympic games, and right here in Westchester—suggests that spectators find and stay behind the set safety zone. “Keep an eye out for caution tape, barricades, or temporary fencing that will be in place to separate the safety zone from the public viewing area,” he says. As far as home celebrations, DeSalvo recommends that people leave the fireworks to the pros. While some New York counties have legalized consumer fireworks, Westchester has not. “All fireworks are based from a chemical composition and can cause severe injury or death if not used properly,” DeSalvo warns.
