Eliminate the yuck factor of cleaning hairbrushes with this new, nearly self-cleaning model. Simply pull out the rod in the handle; the ceramic-coated plates rise up, pushing hair to the surface so it’s easy to remove. You also can turn the rod so the plates are partially lifted away from the body of the brush, making it a great styling tool: it creates a “vent” between the body of the brush and the plates, allowing more air to circulate, thus drying the hair faster. The variable bristle length allows the user to accentuate the type of curl and amount of fluffiness desired when styling. Invented and manufactured by Tuckahoe resident Joe Dipippo, order the hairfreé brush ($18.95) by calling (917) 731-8596 or at www.hairfree.bz
look younger wear eau de grapefruit
When exposed to the smell of grapefruit, men judged the women around them to be up to six years younger than they actually were, according to a study by the Smell and Taste Institute in Chicago. It had no effect on women’s perceptions of men’s age. Institute Director Alan Hirsch said he smeared several middle-aged women with broccoli, banana, spearmint leaves, and lavender, but none of those scents made a difference to the men.
When asked to write down how old they guessed the women wearing eau de grapefruit were, however, the guess was considerably younger than the reality.
