Southbound Bronx River Parkway Closed After Fourteen Car Pileup

Westchester County Department of Public Safety officials say 10 were injured, but no injuries are serious.

The southbound Bronx River Parkway is closed between Desmond Avenue and Scarsdale Road in Yonkers until Tuesday, following a 14-car crash caused by icy roads.

Westchester County Department of Public Safety officials say 10 were injured, but none of the injuries are serious. Two sections of the guardrail near the Palmer Avenue Overpass were damaged when the accident occurred around 9 pm Sunday.

The mile long stretch on the parkway will be closed through Tuesday for investigation and repairs. Repairs have been delayed because of the federal holiday on Monday, as well as the need to hire a private contractor.

According to officials, four separate crashes comprised the pileup where the Bronx River Parkway merges with the Sprain Brook Parkway. Drivers had difficulty stopping due to icy conditions.

Authorities advise steering clear of the southbound Bronx River Parkway and being extremely cautious of slippery conditions on the road.
