Some golfers may think player safety through social distancing is inconvenient, but it’s the smart consideration as courses adapt operations to the new normal in golf. Tagmarshal, a technology company whose system to monitor pace of play and course utilization at numerous Westchester courses, has created an “app” to manage group distancing on the golf course as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The number one priority for golf course operators and PGA professionals is providing a safe playing environment,” says Bodo Sieber, CEO of the service provider. “At the same time, operators this season have less staff and resources available. In an effort to support the industry in this challenging year, the Social Distancing Monitor will be provided immediately to Tagmarshal partners at no additional cost this season.”
The Social Distancing Monitor isn’t something the golfer puts on their cell phone. Rather, it is located on the Tagmarshal dashboard in the golf office or pro shop and connected to a mobile device issued to each group when they tee off. Real-time monitoring allows management to spot potential social-distancing trouble anywhere on the course. The data is tracked and recorded, so that courses can ensure compliance with Social Distancing requirements and also have proof of compliance it be needed.
“Averting player bottlenecks and improving performance with actionable data are testaments to the effectiveness of Tagmarshal technology,” according to Westchester Country Club’s head professional, Ben Hoffine. The club was an early adopter of the system.
