Greyston has elected Deborah Stewart chairman of its Board of Directors. Stewart has served on the Board for six years and as Chair of the Greyston Family Inn for four. She previously served on the Board of New York City’s Learning Leaders while providing college planning and counseling services to public-school students in the South Bronx and East Harlem.
KUDOS
Kris Ruby, CEO of the Ruby Media Group, a Westchester public relations agency, was awarded the 2013 Business Leadership Award from Mercy College. Ruby received the recognition for her “personal and professional accomplishments and her belief in the power of education.”
W@tercooler has received a grant from The Lanza Family Foundation that will subsidize one hot-desk spot as part of its Unemployed Mondays program, as well as contribute towards the cost of a workshop series aimed at individuals in transition. According to W@tercooler Founder Jenifer Ross, these funds will also be used to develop and provide programming that will give unemployed individuals the tools they need to build a stronger resume, interview with confidence, and maximize their online presence. Unemployed Mondays is also designed to assuage the emotional stresses of job-searching.

Library-card holders in Westchester County now have access to Total Boox, a new e-book service that will offer unlimited access and downloading to a selection of over 17,000 quality books on the Total Boox platform, in all categories and genres. Cardholders can access Total Boox on the Westchester Library System homepage by simply registering with their library card number and PIN.
Smashburger Master L.L.C. has opened its third restaurant in Westchester County at 49 Tarrytown Rd in Greenburgh. Smash Partners, the regional franchise owners, will hire 30 local store associates to run the new location. The restaurant, known for its Angus beef patties that are smashed and seared on a 400-degree flat grill, features regional menu items like the New Yorker, a burger with New York cheddar, garlic grilled onions, spinach, tomato, and a peppercorn garlic aioli.
Castle Hotel & Spa has launched an 8,700 sq-ft luxurious THANN™ Sanctuary Spa following an eight-month construction project. It is the first of its kind in the United States. THANN Sanctuary Spas are known throughout Asia for offering a wide variety of luxurious spa treatments based on THANN’s art of natural therapy, where all the senses are “awakened.”

Westchester Foreclosures Rising and Rising
PLUS: The NY State of Health, New York’s Health Plan Marketplace, begins accepting Affordable Care Ace Enrollments, as the federal government welcomes the launch of The Affordable Care Act with a shutdown.
A federal government shutdown competed for headlines as the state launched New York’s online health plan marketplace, NY State of Health. According to the state’s mid-Hudson health department that includes Westchester County, 12 health plans are participating in the new marketplace. Four tiers of plan coverage will be offered: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Nearly 1.1 million uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers are expected to obtain insurance through the state’s online marketplace.
Westchester County foreclosure filings are at their highest third-quarter total since 2009—“53% higher than the third quarter of 2012,” County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni reported, according to the County Clerk’s statement. Filing totals bottomed out after a precipitous drop from 2010 to 2011, but have increased obviously dramatically since then. 2,046 actions have been started so far this year.
