EZ Sox are so darned cute and clever, it's a wonder someone didn’t think of them sooner. The brainchild of Chappaqua music entertainment company founder Ronnie Gesser and his realtor wife Eileen, the idea grew out of the struggle their then three-year-old son had putting on his socks. “We saw his frustration and felt there must be a better way,” says Ronnie. “I asked my wife to sew on half-inch loops on a pair, and they worked like a charm the first time out.” The Gessers knew their idea was a hit when their first shipment of 2,500 pairs sold out in a week.
The socks, made of 80-percent cotton, feature double-reinforced loops to give tiny fingers an easy grip, animal faces to show which end is up, and sticky-grip, non-skid bottoms to make them safe on slippery surfaces. Available in dog, cat, frog, pig, bear, and rabbit designs, the socks, sized for two- to five-year-olds, sell for $4.99 a pair and can be purchased locally at Clementine in Chappaqua and Groovy on Grand in Croton-on-Hudson, or online at ezsox.com. Next up? Seamless socks and larger sizes for special-needs kids.
