An accident at the Mobil gas station near Exit 25 on the Hutchinson River Parkway left six people injured on Tuesday, police said.
Two cars caught fire after a driver, who was having a diabetic emergency, crashed into a car pumping gas, according to Kieran O’Leary of the Westchester County Police Department. Thus began a chain reaction involving four cars; the car that was hit collided into another car, causing a gas pump damaged by the fire to fall onto a different car.
The two vehicles involved in the initial accident were completely charred, while two others were damaged by the rear-end crash and taken away on a car lift. Though three people were taken to the hospital, police said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The Hutch was closed in both directions from Exit 23 to 25 for less than an hour before reopening.
