Chappaqua resident Sarah Stocker Shapiro is a self-proclaimed “accessories junkie.” Now, she’s bringing her passion for fashion and keen eye for au courant accessories to a defunct Fotomat, transforming the 28 sq. ft. space (that’s not a typo) into her newly opened store, Trendmat (230 Saw Mill River Rd, Millwood; 914.391.6873).
Dubbed a “micro-boutique,” the pint-sized store packs a serious fashion punch with on-trend hair accessories, jewelry, and bags. Shoppers can find everything from handmade hair bows for ’tweens and little ones, costing from $10 up to $100 for gold-plated travel (not fine) jewelry to wear on your next jaunt.
Shapiro fell in love with the tiny space located in a Millwood parking lot after seeing the “For Rent” sign while driving her son to swim lessons. “It seemed like the perfect opportunity to dip my toe into retail. The experience will be like raiding your BFF’s closet, and it’s just about the same size,” she says. Shapiro plans to rotate her stock regularly, and sneak peeks of it are available on her Instagram page, at @trend_mat. She’s particularly excited this spring about the “guitar strap” trend to diversify your handbag look, turban-style headbands, and micro-pavé rainbow-stone jewelry. “As a mom of two boys, this is my feminine outlet. I am having a ton of fun shopping for all the Westchester girls and helping them glam up,” she adds.
