SHE WORKS equips Westchester’s young women with the skills and resources they need to thrive in the professional world.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month and all that women have accomplished, it’s also important to recognize the inequalities women still face today and take the necessary steps to help initiate change, especially for the younger generations. LiveGirl, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Connecticut that serves students in Westchester County and is dedicated to building a world free from gender and racial inequality, is working towards this goal with its new SHE WORKS program.

SHE WORKS is a career readiness and internship program for high school seniors and college students. It aims to provide internship equality and close the female leadership gap.

“While internships are an important foundation for one’s career and have been proven to increase a student’s chance of getting a job upon graduation, who you know still matters most,” LiveGirl Founder and CEO Sheri West says. “SHE WORKS provides the education, tools, mentors, and resources that young women need to thrive.”

This initiative is backed by research showing inequalities in internship opportunities between men and women. SHE WORKS not only helps diverse young women establish connections, but provides them with the skills they need to be successful such as résumé building, interviewing, networking, and public speaking.

SHE WORKS interns finish a career-readiness program before completing a 100-hour internship. Participating employers include Greenwich investment firm 1843 Capital, AXA XL Insurance, office rental agency Hayvn, and more.

“The evidence is clear: diversity significantly improves business performance,” Founder of Hayvn Felicia Rubinstein says. “SHE WORKS is building a diverse talent pipeline.”
