Scarsdale Native Nominated to White House Administration Position

Paul Dabbar, President Trump’s nomination for Department of Energy Science Undersecretary, has experience across all energy sectors as an investment banker with J.P. Morgan Chase.

President Donald Trump nominated Scarsdale native, Paul Dabbar, as the undersecretary for science for the Department of Energy, according to an announcement made by The White House on July 11.

Dabbar works for J.P. Morgan Chase as the Managing Director for Mergers and Acquisitions. He has over $400 billion in investment experience spanning across all energy sectors. This includes solar, wind geothermal, pipeline, oil and gas, nuclear transactions, and more.

Dabbar would succeed Franklin “Lynn” Orr in this post if the Senate confirms the nomination. Orr left the position in January 2017.

The DOE’s science undersecretary oversaw the department’s $5 billion Office of Science, as well as offices involved in energy efficiency, renewable energy, fossil energy, and nuclear power under former President Barack Obama. However, it is unclear what the organization of the department will look like under current Energy Secretary Rick Perry.

Dabbar’s experience also includes serving as a nuclear submarine officer in Mare Island, California, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During this time, he also conducted environmental research when he was deployed to the North Pole. Currently, Dabbar serves on the Department of Energy Environmental Management Advisory Board, has been a lecturer at the U.S. Naval Academy Economics Department, and conducted research at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

He received a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.B.A from Columbia University.

Federal campaign finance records show that Dabbar has made considerable donations to Republican candidates and J.P. Morgan’s own political action committee.

Dabbar and his wife, Andrea, have two children and reside in Scarsdale and Nantucket, Massachusetts.
