A 23-year-old Scarsdale man was arrested following a wrong-way car crash on I-684 in Bedford that killed a woman from Mount Kisco early Sunday.
64-year-old Elena Lopez of Mount Kisco was killed when her 2001 Ford Focus collided head-on at 5:49 am with a 2003 Lexus RX300 driven by Zachary L. Tokson. New York State Police say Tokson had entered the southbound lanes between exits 5 and 6 driving the wrong direction.
Tokson’s vehicle was then hit by a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 44-year-old Paula Pinheiro-Aloy of Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Tokson has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene. Tokson and a passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment. Pinheiro-Aloy and a passenger in her car were not injured, according to police.
The crash is still under investigation, including whether or not alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to police.
Tokson was arraigned in Bedford Town Court, and ordered held on $75,000 bail or $100,000 bond. He’s due back in court Wednesday.
Police ask that anyone with information regarding the crash call the New York State Police at Somers at (914) 277-3177 or (914) 769-2600.
