Scarsdale Bulldog Voted Ivy League Player of the Year

Westchester CC standout James Nicholas has been named Ivy League Player of the Year. The Yale junior from Scarsdale placed first or tied for first in three separate events this season, including the Cornell Invitational and Macdonald Cup in the fall and the Yale Springtime Invitational this spring. He also was the runner-up twice, at the Princeton Invitational and most recently the Ivy League Championship, where he fell in a playoff to teammate Eoin Leonard.

The Yale Bulldogs won the 2018 Ivy League Championship, winning the conference tournament by 22 strokes. Nicholas tied for first overall with teammate Eoin Leonard. He capped the season with wins at Cornell and the Yale Spring Open.

Nicholas was the MGA Player of the Year for 2017, an honor based on high finishes in numerous local, national, and international competitions. Last year, he won the Arcola Cup and was low amateur in the Westchester Open. He was also named the Westchester Golf Association Player of the Year, an award he accepted at the group’s Spring Meeting at Sunningdale GC. Last year, he appeared for the first time in the US Amateur in Los Angeles, where he advanced to match play before returning home to tie for low amateur in the Met Open.
