Rudy Callegari

How did 50-year-old Rudy Callegari, a married father of five, go from running a production company to creating businesses in auto rental, software development, and logistics? “I love to start companies and solve problems,” he says. The New Rochelle resident and former film-school student founded Bright Pictures, now an award-winning movie-and-TV production company, in 1993. “We worked out of a friend’s office as I was bootstrapping the startup cost.” In the last decade, Callegari and his two business partners have founded Edge Auto Rental, the largest independent auto-and-truck-rental business in the tri-state area; Zootly, the first app targeted specifically to the moving industry; and Edge Logistics. “I love making something that did not exist before — or is a better solution to what was already there,” says Callegari, an early riser who enjoys cooking breakfast for his family, according to his wife, Pavla. “Either way, you work very hard, surround yourself with really talented people, and, if you’re lucky, it works out.” An avid outdoorsman, the entrepreneur’s next adventure will come in March 2017, when he and the Callegari clan will travel to Norway to see the polar bears.
