Westchester’s iconic luxury hotel unveils plans for a total overhaul and rebranding.

Westchester’s hospitality world was shaken this week when the owners of The Ritz-Carlton New York, Westchester filed paperwork with the New York State Department of Labor indicating that they would shutter the hotel due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

But just hours later, Glacier Global Partners, the hotel’s owners, announced the closure was to enable a “significant” renovation of the entire hotel in order to rebrand it under the Marriott International Autograph Collection, an elite collection of the Marriott brand’s affiliate independent hotels. Marriott International owns the Ritz-Carlton brand, among many others.

“The announcement of the major reinvestment in this vitally important downtown property is welcome news not only for White Plains, but for Westchester County and the entire region,” says the Business Council of Westchester CEO and President Marsha Gordon.

The multi-million-dollar redesign will see the hotel gain a completely transformed lobby space — including lobby bar, lounge, and its own coffee bar — plus updates to all 146 guest rooms, pool, spa, gym, and even the event spaces, with seating for up to 400 guests and a brand-new bridal suite.

“Retaining the Five-Star rating as a Marriott International Autograph Collection hotel assures that the venue will continue to attract a wide range of audiences and both social and business functions and events,” says Gordon. “There are numerous benefits to having a prestige property downtown, including serving as an economic anchor, as well as creating opportunities for employment and the many businesses who provide goods and services to the hotel.”

The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester — the 365-unit luxury living space across from the hotel — will continue to be managed by The Ritz-Carlton. Those who live in the city’s tallest buildings won’t be left out of the renovation plans either, as designer Lisa Galano will likewise be making tweaks to many of the residence’s communal spaces.

The initial target date for a full reopening of the hotel is currently early 2021, however guests should be able to enjoy the Ritz once again much sooner.

“Our plan is to re-open the hotel in September of this year and expect to be fully done with the renovation by the end of year,” says Managing Partner of Glacier Global Yaniv Blumenfeld. “We are very excited to reveal the newly renovated hotel to our guests, our residences, and to the community.”

“We believe that the renovation will elevate the stature of the property and bring an experience like no other to Westchester County; one that is better aligned with current travelers’ preferences and meets the local community’s desire for luxurious, full service product and services,” he adds.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Westchester first opened in 2007 and has offered White Plains ample event space and high-end dining, including at the renowned Kanopi on the hotel’s rooftop.
