Richard Giacovas, 25

Reporter, News 12 Westchester

Every night at 5 p.m., fourth-grader Richard Giacovas stood in front of his living-room window, delivering a compelling newscast. That was 15 years ago. Today, that dream has become a reality for the 25-year-old News 12 reporter. After interning for the station, he rose quickly through the ranks after college graduation. He has produced both the early-morning show and main evening broadcasts for the Westchester and Hudson Valley audiences. After only a year at the station, Giacovas conducted his first on-air special. Since then, he has interviewed celebrities like Carol Burnett, John Stamos, and Kenny Rogers. The Rye resident also covered the 2015 Metro-North train tragedy in Valhalla and was one of the first reporters on the scene last summer when a small plane crashed into the Hudson River. Giacovas, who is also the official cohost of the White Plains New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, thinks his versatility and passion set him apart. “I am an extremely hard worker. I go out and chase stories. It’s a tough job, but I love every minute of it.”
