Have I got a bargain for you, so listen up: eyebrow threading. Ten bucks. Renu’s Salon. Now in Mount Kisco (131 E Main St, across from Borders, 914- 241-6711). Wow.
Last year, our fashion and style editor, Marisa Iallonardo, heard tell of a miracle worker in the brow department. Her absurdly picky friend, who used to drive over the GWB just to get her brows done, started going to Renu Bala in Yonkers to have her brows threaded. An immediate convert, this friend never again crossed the GWB for grooming purposes. And the powers that be at Westchester Magazine anointed Renu the best eyebrow threader in the county in 2008. Now Northern Westchesterites can get the same treatment closer to home.
The talented staff at this no-frills salon works wonders with the thread, shaping and cleaning up your eyebrows to create the perfect arch—it’s like an instant facelift! And trust me, getting your brows threaded really doesn’t hurt (other parts of the face are a little more tender, but the process is still gentler than tweezers, waxing, or lasers).
For those not in the know, threading is an ancient Eastern method of hair removal. A basic, 100-percent-cotton thread is pulled taut and twisted through the hair, pulling it out from the root. While similar to tweezing, threading removes an entire row of hair at one time, instead of each hair individually. It’s best used for eyebrows, upper lip, and face. It’s fast (about 10 minutes for brows), neat (no messy waxes), and causes less irritation, damage, and infection, since there are no foreign chemicals used and no skin is stripped during the process. “Threading is almost an organic way to remove the hair,” Renu says.
The salon also offers organic facials using Indian herbs at an introductory price of just $45. What are you waiting for?
