The local chapter of Room to Read, an organization that empowers children in developing countries through literacy and education, raised close to $20,000 at a Rally for Reading luncheon. The funds will go toward the building of three children’s libraries in the developing world.
Larchmont resident Mony Liquard, whose family fled Cambodia 30 years ago, is the Room to Read Westchester Chapter President. “I am committed to helping children have opportunities of education as a way out of poverty,” said Liquard.
Around 200 people from Larchmont, New Rochelle, Rye, Bronxville, Scarsdale and other Westchester communities attended the luncheon.
Erin Ganju, CEO and Co-founder of Room to Read, and Julie Orringer, award-winning author of The Invisible Bridge, spoke at the event.
