Forbes has released its annual America’s Most Expensive Zip Codes list, and two Westchester towns have landed in the top 100. Of the 28,500 zip codes that were considered, Westchester has eleven total that made the list.
Purchase is currently the most expensive area of Westchester and the 74th most expensive in the country, with a median home price of $2,300,576.92. Some notable companies in the Harrison hamlet include the ubiquitous PepsiCo and Purchase College-SUNY.
Rye, the home of Westchester Magazine’s offices, ranked second in Westchester and 87th in the nation, with a median home price of $2,115,954.08. Some towns with high name recognition ranked lower than might have been expected: Chappaqua, for example, known for notable residents like the Clintons and the Cuomos, came in at 437th nationwide. In fact, most of New York’s placement on the list came from New York City. Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn dominated the top tier of the rankings.
Forbes’ numbers were based on data from Altos Research. Using asking prices, Altos calculated the median of the home prices and then ranked them from there. You can read the story and see the whole list on Forbes’ website.
