PHOTOS: Westchester Continues Its Calls for Police Reform

Photos by Meral Kathwari

A local photographer takes us inside three different local protests.

As protests continue this month throughout Westchester in support of social and legislative reform to curtail police violence, some effects are already being seen. Governor Cuomo has signed legislation repealing Section 50-A — a law that withheld records of disciplinary action against law enforcement agents from the public — banning the use of chokeholds by officers, established the attorney general to investigate police shootings, and established measures to punish race-based false 911 reports, among others.

As the historic and peaceful protests have spread across our own county, photographer Meral Kathwari managed to document three of them over the course of a single week: those in New Rochelle, the joint protest of Mamaroneck-Larchmont on June 5, and in Port Chester on June 7.
