NY Senate “Woman of Distinction” Is New UWWP CEO and President

Alana Sweeny was announced as the new president and CEO of United Way of Westchester and Putnam (UWWP), effective June 2. Sweeny’s involvement with UWWP spans decades, serving as both board chair for the United Way of Putnam and vice chair of the board of United Way of Westchester and Putnam in the early 1990s. She was Governor George Pataki’s point person in working towards the development of United Way’s 2-1-1 helpline, and worked closely with the United Way of New York State on early childhood, health and poverty issues. Sweeny most recently served as executive director of the Police Athletic League in New York City from 2011 to 2014, providing 40,000 inner-city children with education, sports, recreational activities and workforce development in high poverty and crime areas. As commissioner of the New York State Council on Children and Families, she coordinated the state’s 13 education, health and human services agencies joint priorities as they affected children and families.

Rye Brook Lawyer Joins Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever, LLP as a Partner

Jeffrey S. Held, Esq., a real estate transactional lawyer with more than 30 years of experience at major New York City law firms, joined White Plains firm Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever, LLP as a partner in its real estate practice. In his new position, Held will be part of a growing team that is known for providing legal services to major real estate developers and investors. Held earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Doctor of Law degree from The George Washington University Law School. In 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011, he was recognized as a Super Lawyer. Held previously served as a partner in the real estate group at Day Pitney LLP, as well as at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, where he headed the New York office’s real estate practice. He began his career at O’Sullivan Graev & Karabell, where he rose through the ranks to partner.

Cellar 49 Announces New Management Appointments

Cellar 49, located on the property of Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson, announced two new appointments to management at the restaurant. John McGuirk has been named Cellar 49’s new Manager and Chris Hettinger has been appointed the restaurant’s new chef de cuisine.. Previous to their new roles, McGuirk and Hettinger worked at the Estate for several years. In his new role, McGuirk will run the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and be interactive with guests as they dine. During his 20-year career at the Estate, McGuirk has held positions in the purchasing, night operations and food and beverage departments. Most recently, he was banquet manager, wait staff captain and maître d’. As the chef de cuisine for Cellar 49, Hettinger is responsible for creating the menu concept and in charge of food direction for the restaurant. Hettinger has spent 17 years at the Estate, beginning in 1997 as a breakfast cook, and working his way up through the ranks to executive sous chef. 

Attorney Returns to Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin &  Lever, LLP after 10 Years

Richard A. Danzig, Esq. returned to Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever, LLP in White Plains 10 years after leaving to launch his own firm. Danzig is an AV-rated attorney with more than 30 years of experience in complex state and federal court litigation. In his new role, he will be of counsel and will continue to concentrate his practice in litigation and transactional matters. Danzig earned a B.A. from Fordham University and J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where he received a certificate from the Order of Barristers, a national honor society. Most recently, Danzig was of counsel to a prestigious boutique law firm in White Plains, where his practice included commercial and family law litigation, as well as transactional law, and private equity work. Danzig has been actively involved as board member for numerous companies, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Prism and Secure Axcess, two successful patent aggregation companies.

The Bristal Appoints New Director of Business Development

The Bristal at White Plains, an assisted living community that offers memory care support as well as enhanced levels of care, has appointed Charles Dean Brown as Director of Business Development. Brown graduated from East Carolina University.  He has been recognized as a member and honorary graduate of the Army’s 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Prior to joining The Bristal, Brown was a territory manager at Quinnova Pharmaceuticals and director of community relations for Edgehill, a retirement community in Stamford, Conn.

New VP for The Westchester Bank

The Westchester Bank announced the hiring of Lisa Summa to the position of VP, branch manager at its headquarters location in Yonkers. Prior to joining The Westchester Bank, Summa served as the branch manager at Capital One Bank in Eastchester. Before that, she was branch manager of the bank’s Rye location and served as president of the Rye Chamber of Commerce. Summa began her banking career over 12 years ago at North Fork Bank in Fleetwood.
