ProHEALTH Dental Sinks Its Teeth Into Westchester

The regional dental group inks deals with both Westmed and Caremount to provide top-of-the-line oral healthcare in the county.

It’s ProHEALTH Dental’s business model that is the linchpin for the company’s notable success in the region — simultaneously visionary yet somehow inevitable. CEO Norton Travis perceived a yawning gap in the paradigm of American healthcare, and filling that gap became his company’s raison d’etre.

“There is this historical barrier between medicine and dentistry, and for decades, the two professions were practiced in silos,” explains Travis, who launched ProHEALTH Dental in Lake Success, NY, in 2016. “The problem is that there are many things that occur within the mouth that can have a significant impact on serious health conditions throughout the body.”

That realization is the underpinning of the company’s tagline, “Put your health where your mouth is,” so that people might begin thinking differently about oral healthcare.

The company — whose workforce currently stands between 250 and 300, distributed over 13 sites — decided the most efficacious solution was, according to Travis, “to work with large, well-established healthcare organizations that were receptive to the idea that this was, from a clinical standpoint, an important healthcare service.”

As a result, ProHEALTH Dental recently launched its second Westchester location in affiliation with Westmed Medical Group (the first was in White Plains), called WestDental, in Yonkers’ Ridge Hill shopping center in January. Those will be followed by three brand-new locations of CareMount Dental, in affiliation with CareMount Medical, scheduled to open in Mount Kisco and Yorktown, in July, October, and December, respectively.

Travis says that ProHEALTH Dental facilities run, on average, about 3,500 square feet and house between eight and 14 operatories. Its vertical-integration model encompasses cardio-diagnostic, pulse-oximetry, and other screening tests, along with more direct and frequent consultation with patients’ treating physicians and an augmented caregiving role for hygienists. Discount programs are available for the underserved.
