Pound Ridge Moves Up in Rankings

Pete Dye creation has been in top 10 since it opened.

This year, Pound Ridge Golf Club moved up two spots to number 6 in “Golfweek’s Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play.” The course has been in the top 10 for eight straight years.

Pound Ridge Golf Club debuted on the annual list in 2009, only a year after the course’s opening. The course is the only in New York state designed by legendary golf architect Pete Dye.

“We are tremendously grateful for Golfweek’s continued recognition of Pound Ridge year after year,” says Ken Wang, owner of Pound Ridge. “All of the wonderful challenges Dye created, combined with our staff’s unending commitment to grooming the course, makes for an unforgettable experience both avid and recreational players will relish.”

Golfweek’s ranking is computed from input by a panel consisting of 675 voters from seven countries who rely on 10 criteria to rate courses.  The criteria includes overall land plan, variety and memorability of golf holes, conditioning and ecology, and a “walk in the park test,” which rates the feel of the course when spending four hours on it. The Golfweek rankings include daily-fee layouts like Pound Ridge GC and golf courses accessible via resorts.

Pound Ridge lies on 172 acres of striking New York countryside that includes dramatic rock formations, streams and wooded, rolling hills. The par-72 course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,151 to 7,165 yards.
