Update 12/21: Forecasts as of Friday afternoon call for chances of continued icy showers, transitioning into rain on Saturday. A white Christmas is a definite possibility, with local meteorologists Joe Rao and Joe Cioffi joking we may all wake up Christmas morning feeling like Ralphie Parker in A Christmas Story.
“Basically we’re looking at a cloudy, wet Saturday,” Rao says, adding to expect fog in some areas and to watch travel conditions accordingly.
“The main concern is going to be the possible snow that we’ll see Sunday night into Monday morning.” On the subject of accumulation, he added, “The Hudson Valley, especially North of [Route] 287 could see a couple of inches … South of 287 we might just see a coating to an inch.”

Keep your eyes on weather reports while you’re packing up your cars this weekend. A massive storm complex currently charging across the continent from the West Coast is expected to pass over our area right in the midst of prime holiday travel windows.
Friday and Saturday, as conditions develop, some warmer areas may only see rain, while colder regions could receive as much as three to five inches of snow.
If possible, strap on the snow tires, show up to your flights early, and budget in some extra travel time this weekend. If, however, you are the destination, we highly suggest preparing plenty of hot chocolate for your cold and tuckered arrivals.
