Craving a cold-weather escape that’s within driving distance from Westchester? A cozy, safe Vermont weekend awaits in Warren.
While travel has looked quite different (meaning virtually nonexistent) this past year, a Relais & Châteaux luxury hotel in Warren, VT, is committed to providing a safe and cozy experience amid COVID-19 concerns. As many won’t be jet-setting far from Westchester anytime soon, the five-hour drive from White Plains to The Pitcher Inn (www.pitcherinn.com) offers an appealing ski-centric weekend getaway tucked away in the village at the base of the mountains.
The hotel, operating under new owners as of this past fall, boasts a warm and cozy vibe, with 11 rooms (two two-bedroom suites and nine guest rooms) that are individually designed: the Mountain room has a woodsy, cabin feel, while the Ski room evokes a romantic, rustic ambience — complete with original trail maps and vintage signs.
For those seeking active afternoons, snowshoes are complimentary, as are Mad River Rocket sleds. The inn is only five minutes from Sugarbush Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in New England, with 484 skiable trail acres and 16 ski lifts, and 15 minutes from Mad River Glen, another popular ski destination, which features a COVID-friendly single-chair lift.
After a wintry day outdoors, head to dinner at the farm-to-table Brook Room or main Dining Room for a candlelit meal of classic, rustic dining. Afterward, retreat to your room to roast s’mores (many rooms feature oversized fireplaces) or take a bath in the jetted soaking tub each room offers. Soft Garnier-Thiebaut linens from France provide a luxurious night of sleep before returning to the 914.
Starting rate is $375.
Note: Due to the rapidly changing nature of travel restrictions, please call the inn prior to scheduling a visit.
