Last night at Eclisse Restaurant in White Plains, NY, The Professional Women of Westchester held a social media panel and the “P” Factor titled “Social Media- What’s the purpose?” Panelists included Stacey Ross Cohen, President of Co Communications, Lisa Kaslyn, President of Kashen Communications, Kyle-Beth Hilfer, President of Prosper Communications and Kris Ruby (me) President of Ruby Media Group. The event was moderated by Linda Rey, President of Rey Insurance. Over 100 women gathered at Eclisse to hear the panelists discuss the future of social media, the legal implications of social media giveaways, search engine optimization best practices, and how to effectively incorporate create a unified social media marketing strategy in cohesion with a PR strategy. Owner of Eclisse Par Shakiban gave a speech to thank all of the women for coming and also gave 3 lucky contest winners a dinner giveaway (winners included Grace Bennet, editor of Inside Chappaqua Magazine.) The event was lovely, Eclisse was packed and everyone (including the panelists) walked away learning something new! My favorite question of the night by far was when Jackie Ruby asked on behalf of her table what “Four Squares” meant.. Audience members apparently thought I was referring to four individual squares on the floor, rather then the geo-local targeting app “Foursquare.” My prediction on the future of social media? More stalking with geo-local apps, a convergence of social media networks, a heavier reliance on social media messaging opposed to email and an increase in virtual workplace meetings.
