Katonah’s vibrant retail scene recently welcomed two new stores to the mix: Our North and Teddy’s Closet. The stores speak both to new residents who are looking for shopping experiences like the ones they enjoyed in more urban locations, and to savvy shoppers seeking quality goods.
At Our North, owner Casey Lynman is bringing “under-the-radar” brands to the women of Katonah. Lynman says she was looking to target both long-term residents and “the big influx of people who’ve moved here from the city and Brooklyn — the store has a Brooklyn-adjacent feel.” Our North, with its airy feel, invites people to browse such brands as Apiece Apart, Alex Mill, and Ciao Lucia. “I get surprised delight from customers who haven’t seen their favorite brands in other stores, and I love to introduce brands to customers who are unfamiliar with them.” In addition to clothing, the store has a design-your-own-jewelry bar, accessories, and skincare. “I want to appeal to all ages and serve customers who are running out doing errands during the day and then looking for something to wear to head out in the evening,” Lynman says.
For the younger set (and their parents), shopping at Teddy’s Closet serves two purposes. There’s high quality children’s clothing, gear, and gifts to be found, and most of it is consignment or donated. Owner Allison Murphy Suppa was in the luxury-retail industry for several years, and when she decided to open a store, she thought selling in this field “would tap into the mindset here of buying gently used, quality goods to support the upcycling and resale movement.” The merchandise is carefully curated, and Suppa says she looks to provide customers with “the experience of shopping at a luxury children’s boutique.” In addition to carrying gently worn items, Suppa also stocks new products, such as baby blankets, gift sets, and accessories. She recently brought in items from the Tea Collection line, whose commitment to sustainability aligns with the ethos on offer at Teddy’s Closet.
