We laughed, we cried…some of us only watched for the fashion (guilty). You might not have scored an invite to the Academy Awards this Sunday, but there’s plenty of reason to get dolled up right here in Westchester. Choose your inspiration from the following films, all up for Oscars, then go show off your chops—fake accent optional.
Paramount Pictures
Wolf of Wall Street
Australian bombshell Margot Robbie could’ve worn a Little House on the Prairie get-up and still set screens ablaze as Leo’s Bay Ridge-born, lingerie-designing missus, Naomi, in Scorsese’s bombastic blockbuster about (more or less) coming into money—a lot of it.
Go big or go home: Stock up on the Aqua Net before teasing your ’do at the crown—either pulling locks into a face-framing, piece-y French twist, or brushing it back for a sky-high pompadour the “duchess” would approve of. Extra points for long, boldly lacquered acrylics and doorknocker earrings.
Where to wear it: Have the hubby take you and your hair out for caviar and Champagne at see-and-be-seen 42, or richly appointed Club Car in Mamaroneck. Sip suggestively.

Blue Jasmine
Hollywood dame Cate Blanchett is not only an incredibly accomplished actor (and presumable feminist), but she looks damn well jaw-dropping in anything the costume department is lucky enough to dress her in, including the Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès wardrobe—not everyone can carry a $35,000 Birkin bag—she dons in Woody Allen’s reverse-Cinderella story.
Class act: Muted, rosy pinks and soft nudes are the right, reserved tone to mimic the WASP-dethroned makeup of Blanchett’s Jasmine. Hold tight to your upper-crust dignity, despite the cruel, unjust circumstances, with a prim, elegant chignon at the nape, or gently curl the ends of your tasteful, shoulder-length cut. Pearl studs, designer sunnies-as-headband, and a neat, neutral-toned mani make at least the outside appear put-together.
Where to wear it: Pretend you’re still living the good life while wistfully window-shopping at Neiman Marcus in White Plains. Once reality hits, slum it back with the common folk over a stiff drink at one of the bars along Mamaroneck Avenue.

American Hustle
Amy Adams’ plunging ’70s necklines made tongues wag in David O. Russell’s con-man-celebrating period romp—not to mention a feistier-than-Katniss Jennifer Lawrence—but the real scene-stealers were ex-Brit Sydney Prosser’s stores of fur and sequins.
Dancing queen: Let those kinky curls flow freely—in all their bigger-is-better glory—and don’t be shy with the powder blush and lip liner. A swipe of blue eye shadow and some strategically applied shimmer do the talking when you enter the room with an agenda.
Where to wear it: Disco might be dead, but you can still put the moves on ’em during a night out on the town. Swap out Studio 54 for NoMa Social; keep the Scotch and Martinis coming at lounge-y Lucy’s in Pleasantville; or spin around the dance-floor at Don Coqui.
