On the Hunt for Lady Gaga

This weekend was a good one for the ladies. Ladies dominated the box office, with the top two movies being the female-led New Moon and The Blind Side. And, now that the weekend is over, a new lady is taking the spotlight: Lady Gaga.

Her songs are everywhere. (When was the last time you went out without hearing “Poker Face?”) So is she, putting in appearances everywhere from Saturday Night Live to the VMAs to Sunday’s American Music Awards—always in her trademark costume-party-couture outfits. And people are only going to devote more attention to her this week, now that she’s released a new EP, The Fame Monster.

Yet while she’s no stranger to press, few articles mention that Lady Gaga is actually a local. She’s from Yonkers. She was accepted to Julliard, but instead went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart and later NYU, and while she was there she was Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. And that’s pretty much all you’ll find out about her experiences in the Hudson Valley. If anyone has an insight as to what her Westchester life was like, I’d love to hear it. Did she ride the Metro-North in her bubble dress? Did she ever record demos at the Galleria like Mary J. Blige did? Did she ever perform burlesque in Westchester? (And if so—where?!) Inquiring minds want to know.

In the meantime, you can see her American Music Awards performance here, in which she wears a nude-looking leotard, breaks bottles and glass walls, and plays a flaming piano.

They all seem pretty positive. What do you think of Lady Gaga? Did you have any local run-ins with her? Let me know in the comments.
