An off-duty police officer was indicted Thursday on charges that include two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault in the first degree, and one count of driving while intoxicated.

The Yonkers resident, Brendan Cronin, was on his way home last April after a day of training at the New York Police Department’s Firearms and Tactics Section at Rodman’s Neck in the Bronx.
“He went to a bar with fellow officers at City Island. The officers drove home separately afterwards,” said Westchester County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Lucian Chaflin.
Cronin was off duty and allegedly intoxicated when he reportedly approached a vehicle with two occupants stopped at a traffic light. According to the indictment, he then proceeded to fire multiple shots from a 9mm semi-automatic handgun into the vehicle.
One of the victims underwent several surgeries after serious injuries to their back, shoulder, arm and chest. Six of the shots fired hit this victim. After the shooting, Cronin reportedly fled the scene and was apprehended a few blocks away by Pelham police.
If found guilty, Cronin could face up to 25 years in prison.
