Beginning April 1, Shutterstock founder Jon Oringer will step down as chief executive officer and begin a new role as executive chairman. Oringer, a Scarsdale native, has led Shutterstock for sixteen years. Shutterstock’s current president, chief operating officer, and Rye resident, Stan Pavlovsky, will step in as the company’s new CEO.

“Back in 2003, Shutterstock was born out of my own need for affordable marketing content as an entrepreneur,” writes Oringer in a Medium post about his decision to step down. “Shutterstock has grown into a premier player in our industry and reshaped how creative professionals get the content they need…The fact of the matter is that our business has grown and evolved to a point where we would all benefit from a CEO that has a different set of skills than I have.”

Pavlovsky, formerly president of Meredith Digital and executive vice president, Meredith Corporation, is planning to drive consumer retention and new revenue streams by continuing to improve company practices regarding innovation, content, and data based insights.

“Shutterstock has always offered a dynamic and creative technology platform that provides content, tools, and technology to our users. Innovation, content, as well as data and insights, are all core tenets of our company’s vision and they will inform our business decisions in 2020 and beyond as we evolve our platform strategy” says Pavlovsky. “We are hyper-focused on the combination of data and insights, innovation and content because we are seeing how consumers’ expectations around on-demand content is increasing, and we want to empower marketers and creatives with the smart content and creative tools they need to drive performance and efficiency in their workflow. The way we’re going to do that is by leveraging technology to improve content recommendations and use our robust data and insights to drive campaign performance,” he adds.

Pavlovsky first joined the industry disruptor in April 2019 as Co-COO and head of strategic operations before beginning his current role in June 2019. Since then, he has acclimated to his relatively new Westchester life well.

“I moved to Rye from Seattle with my family about two years ago. With an easy commute to Manhattan and great school districts for my daughters, the transition for us has been seamless,” he says. “Everything comes full circle. I know Jon is very fond of his upbringing in Westchester and I look forward to my family experiencing the amazing community as well.”
