Save the Date! September 22 is Westchester’s “Dads Take Your Child To School Day”

As part of the ongoing #DadBeThere campaign, Astorino encourages dads to be more involved.

Save the date! County Executive Rob Astorino declared September 22 Westchester’s “Dads Take Your Child to School Day,” to encourage dads to be more involved with their children all year long. This day comes as part of Astorino’s larger #DadBeThere campaign, an ongoing effort to support the full spectrum of fathers.

“We need to do all we can to help encourage dads to be there for their children and families all year long—no excuses,” said Astorino. “Dads Take Your Child to School Day is a great way for dads and kids to get the school year started right. I encourage all dads and schools to participate.”

Studies suggest that from birth, children with involved fathers are more likely to be emotionally secure, be confident to explore their surroundings, and have better social connections. Even more, students with a present father figure tend to receive better grades, enjoy school more, and are more likely to seek higher education.

Westchester’s Dads Take Your Child to School Day is part of a statewide campaign that promotes fatherhood by encouraging significant male caregivers—anyone from fathers to uncles and brothers—to take children to school on September 22 and remain involved throughout the year.

Astorino’s #DadBeThere initiative includes programs that range from career counseling and job placement assistance to simply creating more opportunities for dads and families to spend time together. All dads and families are encouraged to share their fathering moments on social media using the hashtag #DadBeThere.
