Eli Manning, For Ninth Year, Returns To Guiding Eyes For Charity Golf

For the ninth straight year, Eli Manning partnered with Guiding Eyes for the Blind to raise money and awareness for the charity.

For the ninth year in a row, Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning graced Mount Kisco Country Club with his presence in a selfless drive to raise money for the nonprofit organization Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Guiding Eyes trains and provides topnotch guide dogs to people with impaired vision, and service dogs to families with children on the autism spectrum. On June 8, Manning hosted the annual Golf Classic, greeting golfers and joining a few blind golfers in their sport.

As he does every year, Manning donned a blindfold and tried to sink a putt from roughly 15 feet away. He was assisted as he walked to the hole and back to mentally estimate how far he had to putt the ball. His first shot was wide to the left and went roughly three feet past the hole. His second attempt was more on target but went about a foot too far. Manning’s last attempt had the crowd on their toes as it landed just inches from the hole. After removing the blindfold he then commented on how hard it truly is to golf without any visual cues.

Over the years, Manning and the Golf Classic have raised more than $10 million for the nonprofit organization, which has helped them to train and provide around 150 service dogs each year at no charge to the recipients. Guiding Eyes has nearly 1,000 active service dogs around the world helping people accomplish daily tasks like walking safely on the sidewalk, navigating around other pedestrians, and avoiding traffic while crossing the street.

As part of the fundraiser, Guiding Eyes sells tickets to raffle off a Lexus ES 350 and a Rolex watch, and runs a live online auction that allows bidders from around the world to support the charity. The auction includes various offerings from sports memorabilia signed by Manning, signed art, the chance to be a Guiding Eyes trainer for a day, and even the privilege of naming a Guiding Eyes puppy.
