Delight All 5 Senses With the Best Things to Do This Week

Westchester is always a sight to behold, but if you’ve never spent a long weekend giving equal time to your four other primary senses, you’re really only getting a fraction of what our favorite place has to offer. Here are eight events going down this week in Westchester that will help you truly experience all the sights, sounds, tastes and more that make this county what it is.

Thursday, March 14

Sight: Start your weekend a little early with the Opening Reception for the Milton J. Ellenbogen Collection at Atelier 811 Gallery in White Plains. Featuring more than 25 years of accumulated works by artists like Picasso, Kertesz, and Theo Fried, the collection will be on display from March 15 through June 30, but you can snag an advance peek this Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Sound: Just across the border, Celtic Angels will be taking the stage at Stamford’s Palace Theatre to celebrate the imminent St. Patrick’s Day. The quintet of Irish entertainers will enthrall with song and dance from Ireland’s rich cultural history, supported by the Celtic Knight Dancers (including two Riverdance alumni) and the Trinity Band Ensemble of Dublin. Tickets are $20 to $40.

Touch: LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester has a special event planned featuring fames kid DJs Amira & Kayla. Amira and Kayla will be busting out dance parties throughout the day while your children build their own alien escape craft, meet Wyldstyle herself, help complete LEGOLAND’s massive 3,000-plus brick mosaic, and more hands-on fun!

Taste: For a more ‘mature’ afternoon, the Kessel Center at Pace University will be hosting the third annual Hudson Valley Fermented, a celebration of the best craft beers, wines, ciders, spirits, and other ‘adult’ beverages, plus some delectable artisanal foods, of course. Guests include 17 local breweries like Captain Lawrence, Broken Bow, Toast, Sloop Brewing, Sing Sing Kill, Peekskill Brewery, and more. Add to that another 17 local and regional wineries and distilleries, three cideries, and ten restaurants and grocers, you’re sure to leave full and happy. 21 and over only; tickets are $75 to $95.

Sight: The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College will this weekend being playing host to the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Sunday, March 17

Taste: Let’s get this out of the way: Happy St. Pat’s! We’ve already got a full day of parades, parties, and other shenanigans for those looking to put on a little green, but did you know there’s another holiday to celebrate this weekend? Next Wednesday evening will mark Purim on the Jewish calendar, and that means this weekend is the time to break out the Hamantaschen! Head to your local temple this weekend for plenty of family friendly festivities. Temple Emanu-El in Rye, for example, will be celebrating with the story of Purim, songs, snacks, crafts, and brief services, and of course delicious (nut-free) hamantaschen!

Taste some more: In Pound Ridge, Plum Plums is hosting a Cheese and Beer Pairing and we shouldn’t need to convince you and further why you need to attend. The 90-minute class will teach you how you can use the same approaches as with wine pairing to match your favorite styles of beer with the subtle and bold, soft and hard, always unique cheeses at Plum Plums. Cost is $60 and includes your beer pairings.
