Montefiore Physician to Head County Lab & Research Board

Rubina Heptulla, M.D., chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), has been appointed chairperson of the Westchester County Laboratories and Research Board of Managers. In her new position, Dr. Heptulla will serve as the spokesperson for the board of managers and will advocate for Westchester’s laboratories. Dr. Heptulla, a professor of Pediatrics and of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and a Rye resident, was selected to serve on the Westchester County Laboratories and Research Board of Managers in January 2012. For the last two years, she has worked with four other board managers to provide oversight of environmental laboratories, forensic and toxicology services and microbiological laboratories. In March, the board of managers nominated and unanimously voted for Dr. Heptulla to serve as its chairperson.

Paraco Gas Coporation Hires New Director Of Employee Relations

Christina Armentano has joined the corporate staff of Rye Brook-based Paraco Gas Corporation as Director of Employee Relations, reporting to Mike DeVoe, EVP of Operations. Armentano comes to Paraco with more than nine years of experience in human capital management, and will focus her efforts on talent development initiatives directly related to operations, as well as improving employee relations throughout the organization. Most recently, Christina served as a director at Cook Associates, where she managed client relationships and supervised the execution of recruitment programs for Fortune 500 companies. As an MBA candidate at Babson College, Christina gained valuable experience in the energy industry, partnering with Irving Oil on a loyalty marketing project to analyze the needs of the company’s core customer segments as part of her MBA Consulting Project.

New Board Chair for Friends of Westchester County Parks

Joanne Fernandez

Friends of Westchester County Parks has selected Joanne Fernandez, Manager of Government Affairs at Entergy, as its new Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Fernandez’s appointment comes after Elizabeth Bracken-Thompson’s announcement to step down as chairperson after six years. This is Fernandez’s fourth year on the Friends’ Board of Directors. At Entergy, Fernandez has direct responsibility for managing day-to-day state and local government relations including legislative affairs, advocacy and political activities within New York State.

She has been recognized for achievement and outstanding corporate citizenship by numerous organizations including: an “Outstanding Women Business Leader” by the NYC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; a “Rising Star” by the Business Council of Westchester; a “Visionary Leader” by Kids Xpress Magazine; and the “Green Friend” of the year award from the Volunteer Center of the United Way. In addition, Fernandez serves as an Executive Board Member of the Greater New York American Red Cross.

Hudson Valley Bank EVP Stepping Down 

Michael J. Gilfeather has left his position as executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Hudson Valley Bank, the operating subsidiary of Hudson Valley Holding Corp. The announcement was made by Stephen R. Brown, the Yonkers-based president and CEO of Hudson Valley Bank, who said of Gilfeather, “He has been a vital member of our team for the past nine years and we wish him much success in his new position.” Gilfeather will join Orange County Trust Company based in Middletown, NY, as president and CEO.

Scarsdale Native Joins Prestigious NYC Law Firm

Michael L. Yaeger, a Scarsdale native, has joined the New York City law firm Schulte Roth and Zabel as special counsel in the Litigation Group. His practice will focus on white-collar criminal defense and investigations, securities enforcement, internal investigations, accounting fraud, cybercrime and data security matters, as well as related civil litigation. Yaeger is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and he spent six years serving in the Eastern District of New York. He is a 1995 graduate of Scarsdale High School.
