New Stores in Westchester, December 2012: Bungalow Blue in Larchmont, LOL KIds Armonk, and South Moon Under in Yonkers

Bungalow BLUE
150 Larchmont Ave, Larchmont (914) 834-0302 bungalowblue.com
“Everything here is enjoying a second life as something beautiful and useful,” says owner Dusty McCullough, a trained graphic designer and visual-arts educator. This new eco-friendly gallery/gift boutique has a fun and funky vibe, much like the happy mélange of merchandise it showcases, most from the United States. Clocks made from discarded record albums ($29.99) or Jack Daniel’s bottles, lamps from recycled paper, and flattened wine bottles turned into serving plates are presented on old wooden doors refashioned as tables while handmade jewelry from recycled metal and watch parts are hung on old screen doors. A cheerful chorus of wind chimes made from recycled metals, bottles, glass, jewelry, and silverware hangs from a hammock suspended over its center. Prices are quite reasonable, topping out at around $300 for the works of art by Ken Pease, who paints images of musicians on old cabinet doors and drawers.

If Tom does end up with a place in Westchester (please, please, please!), chances are excellent he’ll cruise by here for clothes for Suri, already a fan. This is the first location in Westchester for this small, chic chain, which specializes in hip street-wear and offers creations by European designers to its discerning young fashionistas, ages three months to 10 years old. Recent college grad Vasilika Poniros, owner of the Armonk location, says her two summers interning with Oscar de la Renta’s production team taught her that it’s all about the quality and make of the clothes. The shop carries fashions for everything from play dates to formal events for girls and boys, and labels include Miss Grant, Sarabanda, and, soon, Miss Blumarine. “The pieces we buy are often featured in Vogue Bambini,” adds Poniros. We spotted adorable faux-fur vests with fringes and beading by Silvian Heach Kids ($138), rabbit-fur-trimmed corduroy vests ($98), and beautifully embroidered Monnalisa party dresses ($160-$400). Looking for edgy little leather skirts, Chanel-like tweed jackets, fun polka-dot leggings, and au courant zebra print coats for your lucky little fashion plate? Head here.

South Moon Under
Westchester’s Ridge Hill, 32 Second St, Yonkers (914) 375-3700; southmoonunder.com
New to Westchester, this fashion-forward retailer has evolved from a single surf shack opened during the summer of 1968 into an 18-stores-and-counting chain. It’s not investment dressing, but rather interpretations of the latest fun trends at wallet-friendly price points. So expect lots of what’s hot at the moment, including color-blocking—like a fresh chartreuse, gray, and white pullover from Free People ($108) or a Street Level purse in royal and turquoise ($38); stripes, such as a striped sequin top by Miss Me ($98); and metallics, like the Glitter Back Booties from Wanted ($69.95). If you’re into the latest in animal or ethnic prints, faux fur, fringe, lace, and the like from such hip labels as Ella Moss, Jessica Simpson, and House of Harlow, check it out.
