After keeping their kids—they have nine between them—happily occupied with beading projects during the many rainy days of last summer, Rye moms Maria Curran and Dawn Yardis decided to open their own beading studio. This cozy little space is chock full of beads: acrylic and wooden ones for kids, as well as others made from glass and semi-precious stones like jade, opals, and jasper. A popular spot for parties and small group outings, it offers a full schedule of instruction and beading opportunities. Ninety-minute semi-precious beading workshops for adults, including instruction and two pieces of completed jewelry, range from $35 to $50, depending upon stones; kids’ workshops range between $20 and $25. And to make a single piece of jewelry during drop-in hours costs between $5 and $40. Not the DIY type? There’s an inviting selection of semi-precious jewelry handcrafted by local designers ($15-$100).

Self-confessed “little girl at heart” Janine Logue has stocked this itsy bitsy, fairy-tale-like space—part toy store, part kids’ costume shop—with everything a little princess needs to make her dreams come true. Logue, a resident of Rye Brook, lovingly handcrafts all the gossamer fairy wings ($6), pink sequined crowns and headpieces ($4), tutus ($24), sparkly wands, enchanting mermaid dolls, and fairy dancing dolls offered here. “I love making whimsical creations for the little girl who sees herself as a princess,” Logue says. “And my fairy-tale tutu poufs are perfect for swinging in or wearing to the supermarket.” Open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm, and Sunday by appointment.
