Utopus Insights, a leading energy analytics software company, has released five powerful software tools that mark an unprecedented stride forward in data science energy applications for the industry. These modular products enable renewable generation producers, regional grid operators, and other energy companies to solve their toughest analytics challenges with accurate, timely information at a lower cost.
“How we generate, move and use power—and how we pay for it—are undergoing change at a rate not seen in the modern era,” says Kerrick Johnson, co-founder and Chief Ecosystem Officer at Utopus. “This is happening as part of an ongoing global energy transformation to a decarbonized, distributed and digital grid. “
The Utopus core team, leading IBM’s Smarter Energy Research Institute, developed its new software solutions over a 15-year period prior to their release in 2017. Partnership with Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) allowed Utopus to install and further refine these tools. “The work is really cutting edge,” says Johnson, “and a lot of hard work and pain goes into the research before you achieve the joy that comes with releasing a breakthrough product.”
The World Economic Forum Digital Transformation Initiative projects a $1.3 trillion dollar market for digital services in the electric energy industry from 2016 to 2025. “Our goals…are to accelerate an era of distributed, reliable, clean and cost-effective energy,” Johnson concludes, “and to do that by serving as the leading provider of analytics solutions for energy.” Utopus’ software tools are currently in use by major utilities throughout the United States.
